We had a patient who was being transferred to hospice, but in the interim Melissa heard the requests from family to make the patient more comfortable. Melissa brought nasal cannula and took off the mask that was upsetting the patient. Melissa also offered comfort in the form of water sponges to help the patient feel better. A once agitated patient fighting the breathing mask is now able to sleep and this calmed the patient's family. Melissa also assisted the hospital Chaplain by asking about accommodating the patient's last wish of tasting wine. Melissa demonstrated Sentara's commitment to always treat you with dignity, respect, and compassion.
