I am honored to nominate Melissa for extraordinary clinical insight, vigilance, and unwavering advocacy for patient safety. She recently demonstrated the highest standards of nursing excellence during a case involving a young child who presented to our ED. Melissa astutely recognized that the child's inability to walk was inconsistent with the reported mechanism of injury. Her clinical intuition and deep understanding of pediatric trauma prompted her to question the initial explanation and advocate for further evaluation. Ultimately, evaluation revealed multiple injuries and raised serious concerns for child abuse.
