She 'heard' my discomfort even when I downplayed it, and I am very very grateful. She did all of this with a humble and kind demeanor as well.
I was hospitalized for sepsis at the age of 46 and was feeling very ill. The key to my healing was maintaining IV fluids and multiple antibiotics. I had experienced multiple IV access sites, all of which were positional. As Melissa Schlosser was caring for me and evaluating me, she inquired about my comfort level. The position I had to hold my arm in at all times to keep my IV flowing was making my arm very sore. I did not want to complain as I knew the IV was critical to me getting better. Melissa could tell my discomfort and called in assistance to help obtain a midline catheter for IV access. This was a game changer for me! I no longer had to hold my arm in a certain position as I had already done for a few days now and I have rheumatoid arthritis. I was able to sleep deeper and longer than I had in days as well. The comfort and rest that this brought helped tip the turning point in my sepsis recovery. Although this assessment Melissa made may sound simple, it was huge in my comfort and healing. She 'heard' my discomfort even when I downplayed it, and I am very very grateful. She did all of this with a humble and kind demeanor as well. What a delightful, intelligent, empathetic nurse! She is truly a blessing to your hospital.
