Melissa treated my sister with such compassion and upheld her dignity, even under heavy sedation and intubation. Upon hearing my sister's past with traumatic abuse, she intuitively realized the extent of her story. She immediately asked the MD to change her rectal suppository Tylenol to oral liquid into the OG tube. She reassured me that the orders were now changed going forward so that no one would need to administer treatment in that way for my sister unless absolutely necessary. This seemingly small change was so profound that I have been singing her praises to my friends and family. Only a professional of such caliber as Melissa would make such an impact as she did. She needs to know that her calling as an RN is exactly where God has placed her for a purpose greater than us. She advocated for another woman; a sister. She is a true hero. It is my honor to nominate her.
