She knew that Dad would not be safe in the room when my mom went home so she sat in his room, held his hand, and kept him safe.
It has taken me a long time to write this because my heart was broken when I lost my dad a couple of weeks after he was released from the hospital. August 2020 my dad went to be with The Lord. He was admitted to Med/Surg. He was crying, my mom was crying, he was confused. It was during the height of COVID with visitor restrictions and my mom had been up for days with my dad, who was in the end stages of Alzheimer’s. Melissa knew we were exhausted and scared. She knew that Dad would not be safe in the room when my mom went home so she sat in his room, held his hand, and kept him safe. She kept him in bed and used her kind words to keep him calm and reassure him. It’s so hard to see your daddy cry. She made my mom feel comfortable enough to go home and be able to sleep for the first time in weeks. We knew that my daddy’s life was coming to an end soon and Melissa’s kindness will never be forgotten. We took my dad home with Hospice and he passed shortly after. Thank you Baptist Health and thank you, Melissa Taylor. Melissa is an example of the mission of the hospital. She displays Christian values. When my dad looked in her face, she showed compassion and love for Christ. As a nurse myself, I hope each day I touch the lives of my patients as she did and does daily. She is a valued employee to our Baptist family. I’m so proud to work here with her and so thankful for what she did for my family.
