Melissa came into an intensely emotional scene of a mother needing a PET evaluation after delivery. She sat on the patient's bed, held her leg, and looked her directly to let her know we would do everything we could to make sure she was healthy enough to take care of herself first and then baby. For a patient with a rough home life, history of abuse, and being in an agitated state of anxiety - Melissa was a calm, loving presence that gave the patient a plan and hope for help. With direct truth softened by compassion and an outpouring of care, Melissa let a very upset patient find calmness in the storm. I was grateful to be at the bedside to witness a senior nurse command authority and provide such personal reassurance to the patient. Melissa helped calm and inform the family of the process involving PET all the while keeping the atmosphere positive and focused on providing the patient with the best care and help. I'm so thankful for the wonderful team leader Melissa is and how well she can stop and provide personalized care even in the middle of calamity.
