Mellissa McKissic demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of Riverside Community Hospital with all her heart and her leadership, colleagues, and patient families feel it! 

Mellissa stands in the unit steadily, as evidenced by several recognitions from NICU parents and staff, such as "Melissa, your dedication and compassion shine through in everything you do. You consistently go the extra mile to ensure our newborns receive the best care and their families feel supported and reassured. Your kindness, expertise, and unwavering commitment make a lasting impact on so many lives. Thank you for being an incredible nurse and for making a difference every single day."

Recently, Melissa went above and beyond addressing an opportunity we identified for neonatal care in the Emergency Department. Melissa volunteered to offer her Neonatal Intensive Care expertise to train ED nurses in neonatal resuscitation and stabilization at their Skills Days. Even more notable, Melissa was instrumental in improving the availability of neonatal resources and ease of accessibility for neonatal emergencies in the Emergency Room. 

She has been an example and leader in community outreach for our NICU, including a community health fair, March of Dimes, and our Neonatal Transport Team. Melissa has a special gift for helping NICU parents celebrate their infants, such as providing them with the opportunity to take festive pictures of their infants for holidays, including beautiful scenery and props. She also spearheads several initiatives in the department to create fun and lasting memories for our families.
