Melissa Monnahan, RN

Melissa is a prime example of compassionate nursing care! She is a phenomenal House Charge who not only supports the staff throughout the hospital but also all the patients. We had a cardiac arrest come into the ED one night; Melissa was right there making sure everyone was okay and running for supplies when needed. The patient was revived but was in critical condition. The patient had no family, only a family friend listed as an emergency contact who lived in a different state. After many phone calls and delegation for the patient, we determined that comfort care was appropriate. Melissa was right there by the patient's side the entire time, from when the patient arrived to their last breath, which was not very long. When the decision was final, Melissa held the patient's hand, talked to her, and assured her she was not and would not be alone, even if the patient couldn’t respond or know. Melissa did not leave the room or let go of the patient's hand until after their last breath. That is something a House Charge does not have to do, let alone have time for, but Melissa makes the time. Her dedication and compassion are something many other employees and I appreciate; she is a wonderful house charge.
