July 2026 Honoree
Melissa Nulle, RN
I would like to nominate Nurse Mel for The DAISY Award after she provided exceptional care during my husband T’s hospital stay following an on-the-job accident. The first 24 hours of T’s admission were incredibly frustrating and overwhelming for our family, but Mel made an immediate difference. She was his day nurse on our first day in the hospital, and saying how thankful I am for her is truly an understatement.
From the very beginning, she went above and beyond to listen to our concerns, understand our needs, and advocate for my husband with compassion and professionalism. As a nurse myself, I had many concerns, and Mel never dismissed them. Instead, she took the time to truly hear me, validate my concerns, and work to get the physician to the bedside so we could get the answers we needed and establish a plan we felt comfortable with.
What meant so much to me was that Mel did not leave the bedside when the physician came into the room. She stayed present, made sure she was part of the conversation, and ensured that she understood the plan herself so she could continue to support T with confidence and clarity. That level of dedication and advocacy spoke volumes about the kind of nurse she is. She wasn't just completing tasks—she was actively engaged in T’s care and making sure our voices were heard.
We were lucky to have Mel with us throughout T’s stay, and she consistently provided excellent care every day. She took her time with him, performed thorough assessments, answered our questions patiently, and always made us feel like we mattered. Her kindness, warmth, and positive attitude brought comfort during this very stressful time. She never made us feel like a burden, even when we needed extra support, and she always approached us with genuine compassion and respect. Mel has a calming presence and a caring heart that made a lasting impact on both T and me. She treated us with dignity, empathy, and humanity during one of the hardest experiences.
Her dedication to patient care, her strong advocacy, and her ability to bring comfort and confidence to families are exactly what make a nurse extraordinary. Mel is a wonderful example of a dedicated nurse, and we will never forget the difference she made in T’s recovery journey. She deserves recognition for the exceptional care, compassion, and commitment she brings to her patients every day.
