As I sit here to write this blurb about my extended stay at St Joes North - tears fill my eyes. I realize that the DAISY award is a nomination for exceptional nurse service, empathy, compassion, and understanding. I would like to share the journey of bringing my son into this world with you and the exceptional nurse that made this experience beyond exceptional.
A little bit of background, I came into St Joes North on Monday - thinking I was going to be sent home. Instead, I was told that I was having a baby today, and it would be in the next few hours. Emotions filled my mind as I comprehended being rushed into the OR for my first c-section.
Melissa was well up to date on the last 24 hours of my stay here and Melissa not only professionally took charge of the situation, she emotionally did as well. Melissa shared her recent childbirth experiences with me and showed true empathy. She was honest and upfront and told me that today would be my toughest day. Boy, was she right! The day with Melissa proved to be very challenging from a recovery standpoint. I experienced some of the WORST possible side effects you could imagine. And through each one, Melissa was a phone call away. She never made me feel like a burden or like what I had going on was too much for her to handle. She picked me up (literally) when I couldn't do it for myself, she took on the confidence I needed to reassure me that I could and would be able to recover through this and she would be there every step of the way. Well, Melissa was right, Tuesday was the worst day, but because of her not only doing her job but by being the emotional and physical support that I needed to believe her words.
Melissa made the first day of this life-changing experience unforgettable, for any and every positive way she could. The entire staff here has been professional, kind, and welcoming; but when it comes to superior, Melissa is top of the line. Thanks for making the first day of my stay so warm and memorable!
