We thought we were going to spend a fun weekend together as a family, but instead we ended up in the hospital the entire weekend. We got news that not only was our weekend plan changed, but our lives were going to be changed forever. Our daughter was diagnosed with Diabetes that weekend and when she was admitted, Melissa was our nurse. She not only made things less scary for our daughter, but she made it less scary for my husband and me! The amount of information we needed to help our daughter live a "normal" life seemed so overwhelming and Melissa made it easier for us to understand what was going on and where we needed to start. She was very helpful with teaching me and my daughter all about sugars, needles, insulin, ketones, and a lot of other things that I had never heard of before that weekend. Melissa was always there and ready for our unlimited amount of questions and never made us feel like she didn't have time for us. She helped keep my daughter in good spirits when I wasn't able to keep myself together. Melissa helped make our scary experience feel like it was something we could do. I would want Melissa to be there to help us through any "change of plans" that we encounter!
