Melissa is a nurse filled with the spirit of nursing. She has compassion, self-awareness, empathy, mentorship, and respect for her team and is not only a constant learner but an educator as well. When I observe her interactions with patients, she gives them her full attention, and if family is at the bedside, she includes them.
Melissa is one of our biggest advocates. She always makes sure that the patient is going to remain safe and they understand what is going to happen. One example of this is before she starts an IV, she educates them on how to relax and not tense up. She tells them that she is doing this with them, not to them. Melissa was instrumental in getting a gait belt and mobility device training.
