Melissa is an outstanding nurse. She works hard to make sure that she takes the best possible care of her patients and their families. During stressful situations Melissa maintains her composure to bring comfort, guidance and knowledge to patients and staff members alike. As a nursing preceptor she is very diligent with regards to following policies and practices as set forth by Mercy, effectively creating a positive learning environment. In the past when an error was found Melissa used it as a learning tool, not only for herself but with co-workers by explaining and demonstrating why and how something needed to be done. She takes ownership of any mistakes and actively works to correct them and help prevent others from making the same mistake in the future. Melissa once said to me that her goal is to learn something new in nursing field every day. She has demonstrated this by leaving her comfort zone to become a preceptor, charge nurse and willingness to become a future nursing supervisor. She is respected by patients, co-workers and doctors alike.
