When my 91 year old mother fell in her nursing home and needed admission to the hospital, I feared that nurses would roll their eyes and resent giving acute care to a frail elderly. As a nurse for the past 44 years, I've seen bias in acute care setting, especially if the patient lived in a nursing home.
Melissa White dispelled my fears. She warmly greeted my semi-confused mom, did a great nursing assessment (allowing mom to answer questions on her own - slowly rather than turning to me for rapid fire answers). She treated my mom with the greatest respect and dignity, and took the time to listen to 91 years of life stories. Melissa shattered my expectations in a great way and I thank her sincerely.
