They continuously lean on Melodie's expertise by inviting Melodie and our team to Nephrology Meetings, saving seats for us for Infection Prevention Rounding meetings or space expansion meetings to ensure our dialysis unit is taken care of.
Unlike other significant populations of RNs who left the nursing field or retired after the COVID-19 pandemic, Melodie did the exact opposite. Prior to COVID, she was a part-time Clinical Coordinator. After going through the pandemic, she felt ever so more compelled to be back on the field as a full time CC, because she could not ignore the fact that her nurses needed her, and her patients needed her. Her exact words to me were, "I am coming back full time. Patients need me, my team needs me, and you need me."
Since Melodie took on the main CC role alongside her co-CC, Hoag program SOAR'ed. We were the first hospital in Orange County to get the PD Urgent Start added to our contract and, the first to collaborate with in-center team during our JDOC meetings in our region. Melodie was an integral part of the EPIC order set build at Hoag, and our hospital partners took her guidance when building the dialysis order set. Melodie runs a tight ship of RNs at Hoag Acutes, and learning multiple modalities under her mentorship is not an option, it's a must. Hoag Acute is a team of 17 RNs, and 15 are multi-modality RNs. As a GHSA, having a CC like Melodie is a dream come true. Despite her tenure and knowledge, she never stops learning, asking, endlessly seeking for better ways to enhance our patient care and make our team more efficient.
