My mother has had several strokes, with limited mobility and verbal ability, as well as cognitive impairment. Due to my mother's limited mobility, Melody had to be creative and fast thinking to get her over to the procedure bed. My mother was crying and yelling throughout the entire process. During the procedure, Melody maintained her compassion and professionalism, even with my mom crying through the entire episode.
As her caretaker, this is stressful and at times, embarrassing, but Melody reassured me it was okay. By not overreacting, she allowed me to keep my dignity during this difficult time for my mother. Melody calmly talked to my mom and explained what she was doing through all the steps, giving her reassurance she would be okay. Melody made it very clear through her actions that she truly cares for her patients and this isn't just her job.
As a fellow nurse, I have high expectations and Melody far exceeded any reasonable expectation I had. She treated my mom like a normal person and that meant the world to me.
