May 2026 Honoree
Melody Recio, BSN, RN
Melody Recio has consistently demonstrated exceptional performance and made significant contributions to the organization. Her dedication, expertise, and positive impact make her an exemplary candidate.
Melody has been instrumental in the roll out of many “swing units” in the organization, moving patients from one unit to a temporary unit, to facilitate projects including renovation of units, updating the sprinkler system, and patient overflow in the Emergency Department.
Melody is an expert in building relationships with staff. She models emotionally intelligent behaviors and has been extremely successful with staff to ensure comfort when caring for critically ill patients. She can maintain unity among and with her peers to ensure safe, patient-centered care is always delivered to our patient population, regardless of the challenges they may be facing. Melody is self-motivated and seeks to enhance her practice by attending courses to stay current with evidence-based practice. Melody is viewed as an expert clinician and role model, and she leverages her expertise by willingly precepting novice nurses successfully into their roles.
Because of her relationship with the interpersonal teams at the hospital and her flexibility, when concerns arise, she is at the forefront to offer support. Socially aware, Melody volunteers in the annual Halloween Costume and Candy Treat for the Community Kids at University Hospital and the McKinley School. Melody also actively participates in the annual Christmas giveaway treat at the McKinley School.
I have witnessed a level of dedication, compassion, and professionalism that truly sets Melody apart. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure patients feel safe, respected, and cared for, not just physically, but emotionally. Melody embodies the heart of nursing and exemplifies the core values of the organization – Stewardship, Reliability, Integrity, Respect, and Teamwork.
