My assignment to CCU was a tremendous shock. Not only was there an ongoing and never-ending adjustment to a new environment, but because of a procedure, I found myself laying in an immobile position, flat on my back, for ninety minutes. I thank God for an angel of a nurse in Meltem. She assured me that everything would be fine, and her energetic, tireless, compassionate, and highly professional conduct, more than supported her loving words of encouragement. Near the end of my initial ninety minutes of immobility, I began to bleed. Meltem saved my life! With the "heart of a loving lioness", she held pressure on my bleeding injection point for approximately thirty minutes. When the bleeding stopped, she then informed me that I had to lay immobile for an additional two hours. Though highly disheartened, I found strength and peace through the mere presence of Nurse Meltem. She was always available for the sight of my frightened and uncertain eyes! It is of my opinion that Nurse Meltem is not only the author but the perfect example of the statement: "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." I sincerely thank you, Ms. Meltem, for your loving, compassionate and professional care.
