Jennings was nominated by a patient's daughter who wrote, "When my father arrived at Memorial Hermann, he was a ball of nerves on top of suffering from a potentially life-threatening heart condition. His nurse the first night was Mendy. I watched her reassure him time and time again that she would be there for him and he was at the best place for care. It is the job of a nurse to administer aid and medication, but Mendy went so far above and beyond for my father and family. She was my family that night. Words cannot truly express my admiration and appreciation for her. She has a huge heart - so big it reaches out to patients whose hearts are suffering, both literally and metaphorically."
