May 2025 Honoree
Mercedes Barboza, RN
Mercedes was my nurse and delivered my 36-week-old son. She was exceptional; she made sure I was supported medically and mentally. My son was premature and had to be taken to the NICU as soon as he was born. This was a very tough moment for my husband and me. Mercedes showed empathy and compassion, willing to be a shoulder to cry on. Not only did she help me emotionally, but throughout the whole labor, she was very thorough, knowledgeable, and answered all my questions. I do have a condition that the Doctor was talking about, having special medication on board, and prepped for me just in case I needed it, after birth. Mercedes took the time, ahead a time to make sure she was familiar with this condition and the medication that may be needed. This disease is not very common, and the medication is not a common drug either. She took the time to make sure she knew exactly how to give it and have it all set up, before even knowing if I would need it. She went above and beyond to make sure my stay was comfortable, getting me everything and anything I needed. After all was said and done, that night, my husband and I had to go to our room alone, while our son went to the NICU. Mercedes went the extra mile to send us up a candlelight dinner the next day to try and ease our minds a little. I, too, work in the medical field, and this was by far the best I have ever seen a nurse go out of their way to make sure their patient was well taken care of from a medical standpoint and an emotional one! Thank you again, Mercedes! You're great at what you do, and any patient is lucky to have you!
Thank you, Mercedes, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
