During the initial assessment of one of Mercy's regular dialysis patients, he was found to be without any acute problems. Very soon after initiating treatment, Mercy noticed that the patient was having a slight change in mental status. Although the patient had very vague symptoms, Mercy's nursing intuition came into play and she very calmly but quickly activated 911 and pulled the team together to make sure this patient was ready to be transported as soon as EMS arrived. This patient was transported to the EC and was found to be having an acute stroke.
Because of Mercy's quick actions and the support of her teammates who respect her knowledge and decisions, this patient was treated quickly, and his life was saved. This patient soon returned to his regular treatment schedule with almost no residual effects of his stroke.
It has been wonderful working with you, Mercy, and learning so much from you. Thank you for all of your pearls of knowledge.
