Mercy Jorgensen, BSN, RN
Mercy (Karishma) served as my preceptor during my final semester of nursing school, and I could not have asked for a more outstanding mentor and role model.
In the relatively short time I had the privilege of working alongside her, Mercy demonstrated an extraordinary level of patient advocacy that surpassed anything I witnessed throughout my other clinical rotations. Her dedication to ensuring the best possible outcomes for her patients was truly inspiring and set a gold standard for compassionate, effective nursing.
Mercy combines deep clinical expertise with genuine humility in a way that is rare and remarkable. She is experienced enough to confidently recognize what needs to be done for each patient, whether it's interpreting complex symptoms, anticipating complications, or coordinating timely interventions, yet she remains humble and proactive, seeking clarification when needed.
I watched her respectfully question providers and physicians about orders or test results she didn't fully understand, always framing her inquiries in a collaborative, non-confrontational way that ultimately benefited the patient. This balance of confidence and openness not only models professional growth for students like me but also fosters a safer, more communicative healthcare environment.
Beyond her advocacy skills, Mercy embodies calm and composure even in the most high-pressure crises. Her steady presence reassures patients, families, and the entire care team during chaotic moments, helping to de-escalate tension and maintain focus on what matters most: the patient's well-being.
Equally impressive is her selflessness and team spirit. Mercy is consistently the first to volunteer her help, whether assisting another nurse with a heavy assignment or stepping in to perform tasks typically handled by patient care technicians (PCTs). She never hesitates to roll up her sleeves and support the unit, demonstrating that true leadership in nursing is about service, not status.
As a preceptor, Mercy went far beyond simply teaching skills; she instilled core values of empathy, integrity, and unwavering patient-centered care. Her approach has profoundly shaped my own nursing philosophy and prepared me to enter the profession with greater confidence and compassion.
