I immediately sensed Meredith's personable and compassionate demeanor upon meeting her.
I was scheduled to undergo a hysterectomy at Atrium Pineville. However, my gynecologist/surgeon ran into a significant complication trying to remove a huge fibroid. So, she contacted an Oncologist at Atrium Main to help complete the hysterectomy. That evening, I was transferred to Atrium Main. The lead nurse and the nursing staff were amiable and attentive throughout the night, comforting me as I waited to be added to the surgery schedule.
The next day, I met Meredith at the start of her shift. My nurse assured me that I would be in good hands under her care. I immediately sensed Meredith's personable and compassionate demeanor upon meeting her, which kept me at ease as I waited nearly twelve hours for the second surgery. Meredith was very attentive throughout the day, making frequent visits to my room between her rounds to make sure I was comfortable. She also contacted the OR staff to determine my surgery status and updated me.
After my second surgery, Meredith ordered my meals, knowing I would be incapacitated from the anesthesia. During my five-day hospital stay, she occasionally brought me cups of ice and water without my request. In addition, she directed me to sit in the recliner chair to increase my mobility. Meredith was also professional and friendly to my visiting family and friends, answering any questions they had about my surgery and recovery. Although I know Meredith had other patients to tend to, she made me feel like her only one. She did a thorough job in performing her duties, a sign of her professionalism and years of experience. Meredith also demonstrated a sincere passion for doing her job – which I told her is her calling.
Nurses like Meredith set a high standard of patient care and deserve recognition and commendation. Yet, as patients, we often take them for granted, dismissing their responsibilities as simply “their job.” We ignore the pressure, stress, and long, strenuous shifts they endure to ensure we receive the best care possible. As a former patient, I'm grateful for the care Meredith O’Connor provided me. She is truly a DAISY Nurse.

Other patient comments for Meredith: Meredith is very attentive and detail-oriented. I feel confident when I am being cared for by her. Meredith has such a great attitude. She treats you like family, so you know you are being cared for. She always comes with a smile.
