June 2026 Honoree
Meredith Scott 2026, RN
I would like to nominate Meredith for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion, integrity, and dedication she showed during the birth of my first child.
As a first-time mother facing a very early-morning scheduled C-section, I was terrified and overwhelmed by the unknown. From the moment Meredith arrived, her calming, confident, and genuinely excited presence grounded me and helped me stay in the moment. Although this is work she does every day, she made me feel truly special, safe, and deeply cared for.
Meredith stayed with me throughout the entire day, from surgery prep through delivery. During the spinal block, when I was shaking and crying from fear and my husband couldn’t be present, she held my hand, cradled my face, and wiped my tears, offering steady reassurance and comfort when I needed it most. Meredith’s compassion in that moment is something I will never forget.
She went above and beyond by taking photos during the procedure, capturing the moment my son was brought into the world. These images will be framed in our home forever, allowing us to relive one of the most meaningful moments of our lives.
Following surgery, Meredith continued to exemplify excellence in patient-centered care. She was deeply committed to ensuring my family and I felt comfortable, confident, and prepared as we learned how to care for our newborn. Although she was not my assigned nurse, she consistently checked in on both my baby and me.
She supported me through extremely vulnerable moments, including times when I could not care for myself independently. She treated me like a little sister, never making me feel embarrassed or uncomfortable when I needed help with even the simplest tasks. Instead, she treated me with dignity, respect, and kindness, always making me feel protected, understood, and valued.
Meredith also demonstrated exceptional teamwork and leadership by personally communicating my individualized care plan to other nurses during shift changes to ensure a seamless transition. Because of her commitment, I continued to receive the highest level of care even when she was not physically present. Her actions reflected not only clinical excellence, but also a deep respect for me as a patient.
When we received unexpected and emotional news regarding my son’s heart murmur, Meredith again went above and beyond. Knowing the pediatrician was coming to discuss ultrasound results, she made sure she was present, even though it was not required of her. She held my hand as we received the news, stayed long afterward to wipe my tears, helped explain complex information, and advocated for me when I was too emotional to do so myself. Her calm demeanor, clear communication, and unwavering presence made me feel safe, heard, and supported during an incredibly difficult moment.
Meredith did not need to do any of this, yet she consistently chose to go above and beyond. Though she cares for countless patients, she made me feel uniquely seen and supported.
More than a week after delivery, my family and I still talk about her daily, knowing her compassion and kindness shaped my birth experience in the most meaningful way. Meredith truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award, and I will carry the impact of her care with me for the rest of my life.
