I have the most wonderful things to say about the clinical staff involved in my mother’s care. The compassion shown by each of these individuals was undeniable and I feel as if they care for my mother like she was a part of their family. They all presented with warmth and a friendly demeanor, but one nurse, in particular, touched my heart. This nurse connected with the patient right away and managed to leave an everlasting impression. The patient had discovered that her sister was hospitalized at another facility while she was still here under care. Her sister’s prognosis was poor and she was placed on comfort care. My mother was incredibly grief-stricken and wanted to leave the hospital to be with her sister. She explained the close bond she had with her sister to this nurse and said that tomorrow was her birthday. The next day, the nurse came in early before her shift and brought a cupcake to my mother. I, along with the nurse, and my mother celebrated my mother’s sister’s birthday together. My mother tearfully tells this story to others and tells them that you come into the hospital thinking you’re just another number, another patient, but not here.
