Meschella can handle anything
We all know Meschella Baker is our most down-to-earth, outspoken, and energetic nurse. She can handle anything. Her smarts ramp up with the most serious high acuity patient. She is an excellent team player, and charge nurse.
I want to share what I witnessed three weeks ago standing in the hallway with Meschella at the bedside of a patient who was actively seizing. We were busy in the department, Meshella the charge nurse was having to take a zone due to lack of staff. This patient was not supporting her own respirations upon arrival. The patient was soon intubated, no family or caregivers from her home were there.
As Meschella and a few of her co-workers got this patient settled and stabilized, I witnessed the most tender loving side of Meshella. She was at the patient's bedside, talking softly, running her hands through her hair, and telling her she was going to be okay. Meschella kept smiling and reassuring the patient that she was going to be okay. That behavior to me is why we go into nursing. This is who we are, the passionate caring person for patients who have no one. Kudos to Meshella for being who she is and how that patient was comforted even in a sedated state.
