I was a patient of Mia's during my post-op stay for my lumbar surgery. I had a post-op ileus complication, Mia demonstrated all of the nursing qualities that I personally know from family members. She was attentive, compassionate, supportive, and dedicated to my care during an extremely difficult time in the hospital post-surgery. She checked on me every 30min on her shift, she ensured that I could get up and walk and walked with me to ensure my safety. She was also open to a conversation with my daughters regarding my status and provided them with complete and accurate information about my situation. Keep in mind I was alone in the hospital during this COVID crisis. She helped me bathe in order for me to feel fresh and clean despite all of her other responsibilities she had on the floor. Of all of the nurses I had during my stay, Mia was the one whom I will remember the most as she made me feel safe and cared for. She truly understood the pain I was in as a result of the ileus. At no time did I feel she was too busy to be bothered with me as she gave me the dignity I deserved to be heard. I feel fortunate to have been her patient and know that any other patient that is under her care will be taken care of to the truest extent. Mia exemplifies what it means to be a true DAISY Nurse.
