Mia McClure, BSN, RN

My mother-in-law is 90 years old and lives alone in PA. She called 911 and ended up having emergency surgery for a perforated bowel. She did notify my husband, who is her only living relative.

Thanks to Mia and her persistence, she notified us. My mother-n-law had a friend listed as her ER contact. Mia spoke with my mother-n-law’s friend and obtained my phone number. She called to advise of the situation. The ER surgery was not able to be completed. My mother-in-law was on a vent with an open belly and was going to be airlifted to York Hospital to complete the surgery.

No doctor’s reached out to us, not the ER doctor, not the surgeon, no one! Once Mia had our number, she kept us abreast of the situation as they were waiting for a bed to come available at York and then they would initiate the transfer. My husband left SC immediately and headed for York, PA. Mia also communicated to us once the bed was available, she gave us the new surgeon’s name, the room number and phone number to contact the new healthcare team.

Mia was exceptional, outstanding, compassionate, and thorough. Not only did she provide this necessary information, but while doing so took excellent care of my mother-n-law and kept her alive on pressers and other resuscitative medications.  Mia is a rockstar in our book, and we want you to know what an excellent nurse you have on your team!
