July 2026 Honoree
Mia Veronesi, RN
My husband was hospitalized in February 2026. He was very sick; we were not sure he would live, but he did. But then, he had a stroke, which left him paralyzed on the left side of his body. Michael was depressed, withdrawn, and would not engage with anyone until he met Mia. Mia was patient, encouraging, and funny. Mia encouraged him to eat. She would say, "Open wide, Mr. M; if you don’t eat, I will." He gave Mia a little smile. She was always upbeat, offering a kind word and taking the time to get him started on eating.
One morning, M was unresponsive; out of concern, Mia quickly jumped into action. She called out to the team and every doctor that was relevant to his care. I appreciated Mia's quick response. Once all test results were in, everything was fine. Mia, with her upbeat personality, said, "Don’t do that again. I am not working this weekend, but I am going to call and check on you."
Because of Mia's persistent, patient, caring attitude, M began to feel hopeful. Mia gave him hope that life will be great again. She also gave me hope. M began to see life with a renewed perspective. Because of Mia's dedication, patience, encouragement, and genuine care for M’s health, progress, and well-being, M completely opened up with a renewed lease on life. Although his challenges were still there, he looked at life now with renewed hope. Mia is amazing, and I am grateful for her as well. Mia didn't change one life, but two. Thank you, Mia, and keep being amazing!
