The process of saying goodbye was explained with empathy and he made sure all in the room were in agreement on the tough decision.
My father-in-law was in a cattle-related accident. The care he received at OU Health Center was incredible. Every staff member - RTs, providers, RNs - was phenomenal. However, Micah stands out as a nurse who is not only highly skilled but also remarkably compassionate. Micah was sure to look at us while explaining every medication, every intervention, and every alarm. He made sure we understood what was happening and patiently answered questions. Micah was clearly busy, as all nurses are, but listened with a smile as we shared stories about my father-in-law. Despite all the medical treatment and best efforts, our family had to make the difficult decision to say goodbye to our patriarch. We talked about how my father-in-law joked about wanting to "go out with boots on." Micah told us we should bring in the boots to honor that wish. We brought the boots in and Micah helped place them on my father-in-law's feet. The process of saying goodbye was explained with empathy and he made sure all in the room were in agreement on the tough decision. As we were saying goodbye, Micah made sure we each had a chair and tissues and encouraged us to play my father-in-law's favorite music. The ways our family was supported by Micah made the worst day just a bit more bearable. We are forever grateful for the care that was given to our whole family.
