She undoubtedly saved this child's life not only because he was so gravely sick but also because she spoke up and voiced her concern.
Micha was working as a nurse in the convenient care clinic on Saturday at McLane Children's Hospital. She had entered into an exam room to draw labs for a patient scheduled for a nurse visit from Waco. This was not a patient that the providers were scheduled to see, merely just a visit to draw labs only. She identified that this patient was not well and was terribly sick. She identified by assessing the patient and inquiring about his illness with his family. She contacted me and voiced her concern about this patient's ill appearance. As a result, we were able to safely intervene and get this patient to the Emergency Department for a higher level of care. Had Micha not recognized the severity of this child's illness and not notified the provider, this patient would have left and returned back to Waco. She undoubtedly saved this child's life not only because he was so gravely sick but also because she spoke up and voiced her concern.

Micha's work ethic has always been above and beyond. She always arrives to work with a joyful, happy demeanor. She creates a work environment that is pleasant not only to her co-workers but also to her patients. She deserves this DAISY Award because of her caring and compassionate work and dedication to providing the most comprehensive care available to our patients. I am in great debt to her as a colleague. This is one of many instances that she has provided wonderful care to our patients. She is an asset to McLane Children's and embodies what true nursing is.
