The patient came in for surgery to correct his craniosynostosis. Michael was our first nurse and never have we ever come in contact with anyone so caring and so genuine and so good at explaining every part of the patient's care. The whole process of recovery was scary - he has never looked so different or been so uncomfortable because of all the IV tubes and monitor wires. I was afraid we weren't even going to get to hold him and I know my baby was scared and just wanted to be held. Michael not only helped us to be able to hold him as he recovered, but he would go over his heart rate, blood pressure, and blood levels with us so we not only knew he was doing well, but we knew how to pray for our baby specifically. We felt safe, secure, and informed. We were educated about what to look for and what to look out for. We were given all this and Michael also acted as a personal friend and comic relief at a time when we needed it the most. He was professional, but also real, warm and personal. I have never had such great care, neither has my husband, in a hospital.
Despite all the uncomfortable circumstances, I felt like we were welcomed and as "at home" as is physically possible in a hospital. Later, the next day, we were being transferred from PICU to recovery, I ran into Michael in the hallway and he dropped everything he was doing to check in on how our child was doing. He was so concerned, you could tell he really cared about my baby boy. I will be shocked if we ever encounter another nurse like Michael. My husband aspires to be a nurse but also has not yet decided upon leaving his career field. After this stay, my husband said Michael truly inspired his already-present ambitions. I personally will never forget the care we received for my son through Michael. Thank you, Sir.
