The way you cared for my father that night in his final moments will forever be something I remember and hold close to my heart.
My father recently passed away in the Neuro ICU. Mike (I think that was his name - he had a scooby doo scrub cap and used to be a peds nurse), was my father's nurse for that evening. It had been a long day - Dad had been there since that Tuesday, I was exhausted and emotional, and Mike was there to listen through it all. I shared with him about my own personal nursing experiences and he told me about some of his as well. We shared some funny stories as well as some difficult stories about our nursing careers. My family circumstances were difficult - I was alone in the room as my father was passing, and Mike always checked on me. He brought me countless boxes of tissues while I cried. Mike called the Chaplin in to sit and pray with my father and me without me even asking...this meant more to me than Mike would ever know. When he was caring for my father, he talked to him as he did every single thing...he called him by his name, explained what he was doing, medications he was giving, etc. I was so impressed and deeply moved by seeing Mike care for my father the way he did, it seemed as if he was caring for his own family member. When my father passed later that night, Mike was there to answer all of my questions and again was so supportive. I cannot find the words to thank him enough.

Mike - keep doing what you are doing. Your hard work and compassion do not go unnoticed! The way you cared for my father that night in his final moments will forever be something I remember and hold close to my heart. Your kindness brought me hope and peace during one of the most difficult moments of my life. You are an Extraordinary Nurse - this field needs more people like you. You make a difference. Thank you!!
