There are many reasons why our department would like to recognize Michael Huff. After speaking to many people, it is clear he is a DAISY Nurse Leader. His muscular frame juxtaposed with his constant smile perfectly reflects his tough but fair business approach along with his warm personality. His managerial style is one of open communication, as he is always seen walking the halls to talk with the staff. Michael's staff know that they are held accountable for their actions, but the one word they always use when describing him is that he is fair. He is a good listener who is willing to help those who need it. He also is good at anticipating problems and using creative ways to solve them. In a time when we can't seem to get people to agree on anything, it is amazing when we got 100% agreement from our primary care staff that Michael is truly a DAISY Nurse Leader!

When I have been invited to attend the Rancho Bernardo Primary Care Team Meeting, it is apparent in the interactions with staff that Michael fosters an environment that emphasizes mutual respect, trust and, earning culture. Michael has continued to recognize staff for their important work especially preventing harm from occurring to patients by using the GREAT CATCH award. I find Michael to be very professional while maintaining compassion and care toward his staff. He has succeeded in creating an environment that role models extraordinary care and an authentic TEAM approach.
