Michael exemplifies every day what it means to be a nurse who practices with humility, compassion, commitment to patients and personal moral standards. He is my preceptor in the oncology nursing fellowship at SCI, and every day when he leaves a bedside, our patients tell me how incredible he has been in his commitment to caring for them. They rave about his calm composure in the face of oncologic emergencies, his constant positive demeanor, and his ability to humbly admit when he doesn't know something and seek out answers to every question. His patients feel cared for, and he gives his patients hope in the face of difficult diagnoses. I have personally witnessed him set an example on the unit for myself and other nurses in being flexible, seeking out research and implementing best practice even when it means changing his daily practice for the betterment of the patients. I cannot express my gratitude in words for being able to learn from him, and his patients feel lucky to be taken care of by him. He is one of the best nurses I have ever known.
