I am writing to give much-needed Kudos to Charge Nurse Mikey. We had a pediatric cardiac arrest drowning victim yesterday that ultimately resulted in the patient expiring. Mike was the epitome of a good leader throughout the entire process. He led the entire room smoothly, compassionately, and with sound clinical judgment and practice. He ensured that voices that needed to be heard were heard while maintaining order and composure. He effectively guided team members to appropriate tasks and helped anybody who expressed the need. His suggestions displayed a perfect balance of clinical practice and human compassion. He even helped guide nursing students, who were watching in the back of the room, through the process. This was a display above and beyond that I typically do not see.

We held a debriefing after the event. Mike's words of encouragement were heart-warming to everybody in the room. I have always enjoyed working with Mike, and I have always felt that the ED runs most efficiently when he is in charge. His leadership yesterday was the highest level of excellence I have seen during and after a tough code. Everybody involved yesterday did a phenomenal job. It was truly a display of working together for the greater good. I am honored to work side-by-side with Mike.
