He is an ardent advocate for patients and families. He is the kind of nurse you would want to take care of your family member because he always goes the extra mile to provide additional comfort to his patients.
Recently, my mother was admitted to MBMC for a life-threatening altercation. As a nurse of 27 years, it was difficult to watch others provide lifesaving skills while I stood in the background. Mississippi Baptist Medical Center's nurses exceeded my expectations while caring for my mother. I appreciate everyone for their outstanding care of her.
After my mother was transferred from ICU to 3B, one nurse made a lasting impression on her and my family, Michael Creel. Michael is a role model for the nursing profession. Michael is genuinely passionate about nursing and has the desire to make a positive impact on the lives of patients and their families. Michael is keen to use appropriate humor in managing patient care situations and defusing stressful situations. He is an ardent advocate for patients and families. He is the kind of nurse you would want to take care of your family member because he always goes the extra mile to provide additional comfort to his patients. He ensures his patients and their family members understand the care plan and thoroughly answers any questions. Michael always began his shift by just coming by to say hello and check to see if my mother needed anything before delving into work. On one of his initial rounds, he found her in extreme pain. Michael began assessing her. He changed her dressing, repositioned her in the bed, and administered Tylenol. He assisted her in becoming comfortable again by using simple essential nursing interventions. She also had difficulty swallowing her medications and would have to use yogurt to consume them. Michael would put each pill in the yogurt and administer them to her one by one. He always acted like he had all the time in the world for her and never tried to rush her.
I observed Michael consistently lending a helping hand to the nursing team members and was constantly willing to drop what he was doing to help a fellow staff member. Not once did I see Michael refuse to change my mother or assist the nursing aide with the task. Michael radiates positivity and greets everyone with a smile. He always spoke and treated my mother like she was the only patient he had on the floor, and he talked to my family like he was one of the bunch. Even though our paths have never crossed before her hospitalization at MBMC, it is a great honor to work in the same entity with Michael Creel. He is a true DAISY Nurse.
