We lost our dad last week at Swedish Cherry Hill. He was diagnosed with metastatic cancer in early December, and the speed of his diagnosis, decline, and death was overwhelming and devastating. Nurse Mike helped us through. Dad spent his final hospital stay mostly under Mike's care. Mike helped our family navigate things in this process we were not equipped to manage. He made sure to be there with us when doctors and other specialists were visiting to support us and also make sure they were seeing the full picture of Dad's overall health. He was so caring, so compassionate, so expert in the level of care he was providing - we were able to focus on losing our dad and loving him, knowing that Mike was taking excellent nursing care of him. My Dad felt safe with Mike, they developed a relationship over those hard days. Knowing that my dad felt cared for by Mike and that Mike was helping us understand what was happening eased some burdens. Mike saw us, connected with us, and made sure that he was doing everything he could to make a terrible situation as good as it could be. We will be forever grateful. Swedish Hospital is fortunate to have such an incredible nurse as part of your team. Mike is an absolute gem.
