Michael is exemplary as a clinician, peer, and patient advocate. On one particular night I was caring for a patient who was critically ill and rapid response was called twice on this patient. Michael was one of the first to respond to help try to stabilize this patient. When I told him I was glad he was on rapid response that night, he informed me that he had not been, and had a full ICU assignment. Nonetheless, through the night he kept checking on the patient and giving me tips on patient care. He also helped start another IV using ultrasound so that we could give blood quickly. He is always eager to lend a hand and does so with a smile at the same time he shares his knowledge in a manner that is empowering.
Some nights I wonder if I am ready to face whatever assignment I am delegated, but I always breathe a sigh of relief when I know Michael’s on shift. For those reasons and more Michael is deserving of this DAISY Award. He deserves recognition for his contributions to staff and patient morale and better patient outcomes.
