We did not know the seriousness of W’s illness but Michael was there with us.
We came through the ER with a referral due to a positive COVID test and underlying heart and lung complications. Our son was fully vaccinated but still became ill.
Our son did not have a good outcome and passed away in the evening. I would like to commend my son’s night nurse Michael. Michael was his nurse both evenings. Michael was kind and compassionate. W was very scared of being admitted with COVID to the ICU. He said he didn’t want to go to the ICU, he didn’t want to die. Our son was seventeen. He was a large guy and not what anyone would have expected to have been in a Children’s Hospital. Michael treated him with respect and talked with him not like a child but like a young adult.
It seemed after W was admitted it was one thing after the other happening. It all happened so fast. Michael kept up with us for two nights but made an impact on us. W was so happy to see Michael when he came in on the second shift. I knew W felt more secure knowing Michael was there. I was so pleased with the care Michael gave W. He was with us when W coded and worked so hard to help save W.
We did not know the seriousness of W’s illness but Michael was there with us. He kept checking on W and I could tell W appreciated him and felt comforted by him. I failed to even speak to Michael the night W passed away but please share with him how very much we appreciated the care and comfort given to W the last two nights that he was with us on this earth. There is nothing a mother can say to express how much it means for someone to take care of her child especially when she cannot.
