May 2017 Honoree
michael scott, Charge Nurse II
Mike Scott was a triage nurse during an exceptionally busy time in the ED. Every ED bed was occupied and several patients who arrived via EMS were forced to wait in the lobby for an available bed. A 37-week pregnant patient arrived with contractions and the only available tech supporting triage escorted the patient to L&D.
During the chaos, a suicidal psych patient who had been waiting for a bed decided to make a run for it. Mike attempted to stop the patient who was twice his size, not compliant, and physically aggressive. Through everything, Mike maintained his calm demeanor, remained professional, and was able to diffuse a potentially disastrous situation.

Thank you, Michael, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
