Mikey works in Cath Lab and always makes sure that the patient has their choice of music in the room before the procedure starts. He also will hold a patient's hand through a whole procedure if that is what makes them feel comforted. Mikey will always spend whatever time he needs to with a patient and their family by not just standing at the foot of the bed but by sitting down and getting to the level of the patient to speak with them. Mikey shows great empathy with his patients.
A patient who had an acute myocardial infarction wrote to compliment the caregivers in Cath Lab, especially two of the team members. Mike was one of them. She wrote, "I feel with the horror of that situation these gentlemen were on my side and rooting for me to pull through the ordeal."
I am told that when the patient came in the room that night, she was extremely anxious and while the room was being set up and she was being prepped for her procedure, Mikey spent a lot of time comforting her and helping her calm down before he went into the control room. He kept reassuring her that everyone was watching her and that they were all going to get through it together.
Mikey shows his compassion for his patients through encouragement while the patient goes through a difficult procedure. A colleague recalls the patient saying about Mikey, "I remember him telling me to be his rock! The encouragement needed during that painful time was provided by this kind man."
