Michael Walterman went the extra mile with a patient who signed out AMA before his discharge. He was homeless and did not have a place to go or a means of transportation. He walked off the unit and Michael and our new orientee followed him and convinced him to come back inside. The patient was only wearing jeans and a shirt.
Michael retrieved his phone charge and medical alert and gave to him and convinced him to wait in the ED waiting room. The social worker was off the unit and the patient lost his information about shelters. Michael called shelters until he found one with a bed. The patient came back up to our unit and we were able to arrange a cab for him and safely discharge him instead of him walking off outside in cold weather.
