The patient presented to the ED with AMS from work. The triage nurse wanted to activate CODE Stroke. ED doctor stated he did not feel this was a stroke; both nurses listened to their intuition, advocated for the patient, and followed our guidelines despite the discrepancy in opinions. The patient went to scan, and was found to have a large vessel occlusion, for which we were able to transfer the patient and have a successful thrombectomy to remove the clot. These types of strokes are not always obvious and to have nurses not only be able to assess well but advocate for their patients and boldly follow protocols that provide the most optimal patient outcomes makes me so incredibly proud to work alongside them.
