This is just one example of how Mickey takes care of her patients and treats each one of them and their families like her family.
Mickey was taking a critically ill patient for several days, who ended up with ICU delirium. This, unfortunately, made our job nearly impossible to try to care for this man. Mickey took it upon herself to sit with the patient and try to understand what he thought was going on. Mickey was in that room for over two hours, sitting at the bedside, talking with the patient. Getting to know him as he grew up, asking him about the job he had when he was working, raising his children, and marrying the love of his life. Mickey then got the patient to take his medication, get cleaned up, and understand the situation he was in. Mickey didn't have to take the time to sit with him. She could've asked the MD for restraints or for some medication, but she didn't. She started at the cause of the problem and got him to understand that we were trying to help.

The patient was on the unit for several days... he remembered this event. He remembered being confused and that Mickey helped him understand what was going on. Unfortunately, the patient went CMO at the end of his stay, and the family asked if Mickey was working and if Mickey could have the patient because she had made such a big impact on their lives. Unfortunately, she was not working and was not able to say 'goodbye', but the family had said she had a huge impact on their care and stay while she was here in the ICU. This family wanted to make sure that Mickey knew how grateful they were for her and her care. This is just one example of how Mickey takes care of her patients and treats each one of them and their families like her family.
