Our son was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital by ambulance and discharged 12 days later. He was admitted to the Med-Surg-ICU (MSICU) on the same day of arrival. We live in Queens and our son lives in Syracuse. We received a telephone call from one ICU nurse and Dr. P of the MSICU telling us of the circumstances surrounding our son's condition, getting his personal/medical information, and receiving authorization from us to insert a central venous line. We rushed out to be with our son during this difficult time, and upon arrival at the hospital a few hours later, we realized he was in the best care possible.

Nurse Michele was on duty the next day. We will be forever grateful to Michele for her excellent care of our son. She was constantly monitoring him, answered all our questions, and she took a personal interest in calming us down when we became emotional. Michele met our family members who arrived the next day, and they instantly fell in love with her! She is down-to-earth and sincere, made us feel extremely comfortable and aware of what was happening, and was firm yet humane.
Our son had a large group of friends and family visiting him, but Michele never missed a step to ensure his safety and privacy. She was in total control of everything and super busy, but she still found the time to smile and gave us hope that "He would be fine." Michele is amazing and a true asset to the MSICU.

Although the nursing and medical staff rendering MSICU care to our son was excellent, we did not get everyone's name, which we regret because every single person involved in his stay in MSICU needs to be recognized for their hard work, excellent nursing, and medical care, and full compassion.
