Michele might be my favorite nurse in the world, which says so much because my mom is a nurse. My mom, who is used to ALWAYS being in charge, immediately recognized Michele as an alpha nurse and did everything she said. I cannot begin to explain why this is so awesome. Unfortunately, Michele got days off and we had to switch nurses. Mom got way too many IV sticks and I became extremely upset. Mom's IV came out and I had had it. Michele came down, at mom's request, and got her on the first stick. Even though Mom was no longer Michele's patient, she still took time out of her hectic day to take care of her. For the two or three days Michele had been Mom's nurse, she was perfect in every single way. She explained everything to Mom and to me, she knew her stuff, which put Mom at ease because she recognized she was in extraordinarily capable hands. Being raised by a nurse means I've been around hundreds of them. I can tell you without a doubt there are nurses and then there are Nurse's Nurses. Nurse's Nurses are who nurses go to when they need real help. Nurse's Nurses know just about everything there is to know, they are the best IV stickers and they command (and rightly deserve) respect from everyone. I am not an easy patient family member to deal with. I rarely left Mom's side. When I did leave her side to go pet my dogs it was when I knew the Nurse's Nurse, Michele, was watching over Mom like the guardian angel she is.
