Michelle is not only a nurse, but she is also a saint for all she does for her patients. For me, making it through the first night that I still could barely sit up from surgery was an especially daunting, overwhelming and scary task. The moment I saw Michelle's warm, smiling face come into my room that first night, I felt a sense of relief flood over me. I knew I was in good hands and that I would be able to do this. I felt safe and cared for by Michelle. I even felt reassured and comfortable enough to send my partner home each night after she arrived for her shift so that he could get a good night sleep.
Michelle exemplified clinical expertise in her ability to consistently control and sooth my post-surgery pains and answer my many questions about recovery and care. I struggled the first couple of days but Michelle was there every step of the way with her encouragement and helpful tips to help me succeed, which I did. I made the most progress with my recovery on the night shift with Michelle there to guide me.
Michelle showed her compassion by anticipating my every need, even though the unit was extremely busy the entire time I was there. I could always count on Michelle to be there promptly when I needed her for anything. I don't think night shift staff gets enough credit for how hard it is to work those hours and still remain in good spirits. Michelle always had an upbeat and warm demeanor that made me feel at home. She is very clearly a nurse that loves what she does, and it shows in her work.
When I look back on my experience in the hospital, I am going to fondly remember the amazing care I received from Michelle.
