Michelle Baker, BSN, RN
A patient seemed uncomfortable as he waited to see the ED doctor. Ms Baker quietly intervened. She was so soothing in her tone and touch that the patient agreed to wait for the doctor.
Ms Baker nicely and calmly went to speak with the ED doctor. She was able to advocate for this patient. The doctor went to evaluate this patient. Ms. Baker worked up this patient and pt went for an urgent abdominal CT scan. Subsequently, this patient had to be immediately transferred to another institution for emergency surgery.
During the patient’s return from the CT scan, the pt’s primary nurse came to introduce himself to the patient. Ms. Baker not only saved this patient from a major complication, she was not even assigned to this patient. She just was intervening and helped the patient’s needs. She was not concerned that this patient was assigned to another nurse.
Ms. Baker provides her colleagues, patients, and family always an emotional, compassionate message whenever she works.
