On a busy, extremely hot evening, an elderly gentleman brought his wife to the Emergency Department. After she was treated and released the couple went to their car and found it not starting and smoking. Their ER nurse, Michelle, came out to see what was wrong. She brought them back into the hospital, seated them in consult room and gave them drinks and snacks due to her concern about them being out in the heat. She then contacted their garage for them and made arrangements for the car to be towed. She called family and arranged for someone to pick them up. Throughout all of this, she remained kind and concerned and never once made it seem like she was going beyond her normal duties, which she definitely was.
